This girls’ class meets the second Thursday of every month throughout the school year. There is an Old English nursery rhyme about the days of the week. In this rhyme, Thursday’s Child has “far to go.” There are many ideas associated with this rhyme, but what I take from it is that Thursday’s Child is one with a great sense of self-awareness. This is the young woman who can see and envision what eludes others. She wields words like a wand or a sword; she masters words to make her life happen!
I will post the poem during class, we will read it together, and we will talk about the poem. The goal is to be able to analyze and discuss poetry with depth and thought. This is a critical thinking class. There is no homework or outside reading. The words of women poets will teach critical thinking skills.
